Issuing more concealed carry permits does not decrease crime, according to a new study published in the Journal of Criminology. Texas A&M professor Charles D. Phillips, Ph.D., MPH, lead the study. He and his colleagues looked at more than a decade of data on changes in crime and concealed handgun licensing rates from more than 500 counties in four states: Texas, Michigan, Florida and Pennsylvania.

On June 8, 2013 the 24th Annual Neighborhood Conference addressed neighborhood associations and residents from all over San Antonio on the issue of safety at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church. Precinct 4 County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson launched the lunchtime session, delivering a talk on the importance of neighborhood associations. Jeanne Russell of SA2020 led a panel discussion on crime and safety with Deputy Chief Joe Hamilton of Bexar County Sherriff's Department and Assistant Chief Jose Banales of the San Antonio Police department. The session concluded with questions and concerns from attendees. Watch the entire session below.

National Night Out (NNO) promotes involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. NOWCastSA aims to enrich San Antonio’s NNO activities by engaging online audiences, raising awareness of events, and helping people and organizations to tell their own stories.
