Northeast Bexar County Democrats will host a Mayoral and City Council Candidates Forum from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on April 8 at the TriPoint event space. The forum will feature candidates for San Antonio Mayor and for City Council Districts 1, 2, 9 and 10.   For more information, go to the group's Facebook listing.

Citizens interested in running for Council District Seats 9 and 10 in the May 10, 2014 Special City Election can purchase information packets now in the Office of the City Clerk, located on the second floor of City Hall at 100 Military Plaza. The packet cost is $30 and may be purchased during the regular office hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

After a constituent contacted the Mayor, the City Manager, all current City Council members and candidates about the wrongful death of a family pet, only one person responded with his expression of sympathy. That person was Arthur Thomas IV, candidate for City Council in District 10.

I believe the City’s recent ethics controversies, while painful and embarrassing, may afford us the opportunity to build more transparency into our city government and to create meaningful changes in our ethics policies. But to be successful, I believe we must embrace a comprehensive strategy that includes a thorough review of our current policy. We must make use of expert opinions, best practices, and ensure the process take place in an open, inclusive environment with plenty of public input.
