San Antonio pet owners who find themselves faced with the difficult decision to find a new home for their beloved pets now have a caring helping hand thanks to Rehome, a new and free online pet adoption program by Adopt-a-Pet.com and the Petco Foundation.

A dog-friendly weekend at the Botanical Garden. Doggie treats and pools of water will be available for your pup as you stroll and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. $5 donation per dog (on a leash, please) will go toward local animal-friendly charities.

Coming soon to San Antonio: Maverick Dog Park: a state-of-the-art, ecologically-conscious, sustainable, community-funded dog park just north of downtown San Antonio. I could fill you in on all of the details but I think I’ll let my BFF (best four-legged friend) fill you in since he’s got a vested interest in the success of this new park.

Pookie is a Chihuahua that belongs to my daughter Morgan. He means the world to her and to the rest of our family. On Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m. Pookie had a seizure. He cried out - I thought he was dying. I immediately yelled out to Morgan and my husband, Chuck to rush him to our veterinarian, Dr. Sloan.

Congratulations to the San Antonio Fire Department’s (SAFD) very own Arson K-9, Kai, for being named one of the eight finalists for the 2014 American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. Thanks to the public’s votes, Kai beat out more than a dozen other dogs to win the “Arson Dogs” category and she must now face off against the winners of the seven other categories. Voting is now open for the final round that will determine which heroic hound will be named this year’s American Hero Dog, at the fourth annual Hero Dog Awards in California.

Edward and Betty Boop (BB) are lucky to be alive: Originally rescued from the streets of Bexar County by Ordinary Miracles Canine Rescue (OMCR), supporters raised funds to send them to a renowned Willis, Texas pit bull rescue when families could not be found for them locally. Much to their shock and disappointment, on July 17, 2012, the Montgomery County Sheriff served a warrant on Spindletop Pit Bull Refuge and seized 297 dogs from negligent conditions (Click here for related Houston Press article).
