San Antonio Animal Care Services is urging residents to use the greatest of caution with pets outdoors during the summer heat. Our South Texas heat can easily put your pet at risk for overheating because dogs cool their bodies by panting which is much less effective than sweating.

Where can you find a park designed just for dogs? This map includes 14 dog parks: 11 in San Antonio, one in Alamo Heights, one in Schertz and one in Universal City. Click on a marker to see the hours. This map does not include parks that allow dogs on a leash. This map only includes parks designed specifically for dogs and their people.

It’s a dog friendly weekend! Bring your four-legged friend and explore! Water bowls are available throughout the Garden. Admission is general admission ($7 per child and $10 per adult) + $5 donation per dog (on a leash, please) will go toward local animal friendly charities.  Members enjoy free admission + $5 donation per leashed dog.

Coming soon to San Antonio: Maverick Dog Park: a state-of-the-art, ecologically-conscious, sustainable, community-funded dog park just north of downtown San Antonio. I could fill you in on all of the details but I think I’ll let my BFF (best four-legged friend) fill you in since he’s got a vested interest in the success of this new park.

In a bid to host the biggest community spay/neuter clinic San Antonio has ever seen, Animal Care Services is working with a local animal welfare group to offer hundreds of FREE pet sterilizations. Spay Neuter Inject Protect of S.A. (SNIPSA) and ACS are focusing efforts in the 78227 zip code, a target area based on service call volume and the number of documented bite cases.

Ever seen a dog with a wallet? A cat with a purse? Our pets don’t carry I.D., and microchips provide an easy and permanent way to give lost pets a ticket home. Friday, August 15 is “Check your Chip” Day--a nationwide event to encourage microchip pet identification. In support of that push, Animal Care Services will host $5 Microchip MANIA this Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

With freezing temperatures on the way, Animal Care Services (ACS) urges residents to take steps to protect their four-legged family members from the cold and wet weather that fall and winter often bring. With a few simple precautions, they can ensure their pets stay happy and healthy throughout the colder months of the year.

This weekend, Animal Care Services is joining San Antonio’s biggest animal shelters for Whiskers in Wonderland, sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society. This event aims to be the largest pet adoption event in San Antonio history. The adopt-a-thon features four different shelters throughout San Antonio, each with hundreds of adoption ready dogs and cats. Dec. 7-8, adopters can bring home a dog or puppy for $40 and a cat or kitten for just $15 from any of the participating shelters:
