Dreamers, the DREAM Act and DACA

This archive of articles and videos is about the DREAM Act, which would provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who were brought to this country as children, also known as Dreamers. Former President Barack Obama, by executive order, implemented the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, which granted Dreamers temporary legal status to live, work and study in the U.S.

The 700,000 Dreamers in the United States have held their breath for the past three years, expecting the worst from the U.S. Supreme Court after the Trump administration said it would end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

About 200 people marched through the streets of San Antonio Saturday, Feb. 18, protesting the Trump Administration’s immigration policies. Liberty League of San Antonio, a grassroots organization, organized the peaceful event, which went viral via a Facebook invite.

Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP) along with the William C. Velasquez Institute held a two-day “Latino Texas Strategy Session” at the Westside Education and Training Center. The strategy session was organized after an outcry from Latino voters concerned about incoming President Donald Trump’s proposed policies and offensive language towards Latinos during his presidential campaign.
