From a press release from San Antonio's District 5 Office: The District 5 Office is hosting a celebration at the Cassiano Park pavilion of the 1938 Pecan Shellers’ Strike, one of the largest strikes in Texas history. The event will feature artwork from Burbank High School students, music, and several speakers including Emma Tenayuca’s niece, Sharyll Teneyuca. The celebratory event follows a City Council meeting on Thursday, which unanimously approved the ordinance to designate the Emma Tenayuca Memorial Way on Cevallos Street from Interstate 35 to Probandt.

The Museo del Westside launched its inaugural website and a virtual exhibit “Women and Activism in the Westside”  to mark the centennial of the 19th Amendment. Although the amendment declared that the right to vote cannot be denied on the basis of sex, it did not guarantee voting access. Citizenship laws, poll taxes, threats and violence barred African American, Latina, Native American, Asian American, immigrant, and poor women from voting.
