Eva’s Heroes was the recipient of a $15,000 donation, as well as a specially outfitted Toyota Sienna, from Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas during a celebration of the plant’s 15th anniversary on Oct. 19.

Don your vintage 1920s party attire and get ready to have a roaring good time during Eva’s Heroes 2018 Celebrity Casino Night presented by L’Oréal Paris. This year’s theme is “All That Jazz,” in which guests will be taken on a musical journey to experience jazz through the ages. All proceeds benefit teens and adults with intellectual special needs who are served by Eva’s Heroes by providing unique experiences within the community, summer enrichment program, and other socialization opportunities that has a profound impact on their lives.

Eva’s Heroes recently received a $33,000 award and 10 laptops from the Microsoft Community Empowerment Fund to support the organization’s Volunteer Mentor Training Program. The award will be used to train teen volunteers to develop a video training series, including sensitivity and safety components, to introduce potential volunteers to individuals with intellectual special needs and prepare them for behaviors and situations they might experience.

Former Major League Baseball players Donald Harris, Jim Gideon and Brian Clark, among others, will step up to home plate to instruct teens and young adults with intellectual special needs, ages 14 and older, during Eva’s Heroes 3rd annual Baseball Clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 16 at St. Mary’s University Dickson Stadium, One Camino Santa Maria, 78228. Admission is $10 per player. Lunch will be provided. Donald Harris and Jim Gideon played for the Texas Rangers, while Brian Clark played for the Cleveland Indians.

Eva’s Heroes is encouraging brothers and sisters, who are 18 and older and who have a sibling with special needs, to register now for the organization’s free SA Sibs program that begins Aug. 19 with a meet-and-greet at Paramour. SA Sibs offers monthly sessions that include discussion activities, social outings, games and opportunities to make new friends. Eva’s Heroes is grateful to customers of Jersey Mike’s Subs who purchased subs, chips and drinks on March 29. On that day, Jersey Mike’s donated 100 percent of total sales – $21,597 – from its San Antonio stores through the company’s annual “Day of Giving”.

Jersey Mike’s Subs has partnered with Eva’s Heroes as its charity partner to benefit teens and adults with intellectual special needs. During the month of March, every customer who eats at Jersey Mike’s can choose to make a donation that will directly benefit Eva’s Heroes. “By simply making a donation during March, your purchase of a Jersey Mike’s meal can make a huge difference in the life of our participants,” explained Shawne Zakaria, executive director of Eva’s Heroes.
