The Parks Community Bond Committee on Monday, Dec. 5, finalized its recommendations toward the city’s planned 2017 bond. Committee members spent nearly four hours making proposals and counter-proposals. Negotiations during brief breaks took place. A few tense moments, also, were present.

The citizen committees studying San Antonio's planned 2017 bond are more than halfway through their work. Members of the parks and recreation committee, though, are offering varying opinions that reflect a growing number of residents who hope to get more attention for smaller, less visible projects citywide.

Residents packed the auditorium at San Antonio Central Library Nov. 2 to speak in support of millions of dollars in bond-funded projects to improve the city's largest parks, including Brackenridge, Hardberger, McAllister and the Hemisfair Civic Park. The meeting was the last chance for citizens to be heard by the Parks and Recreation Bond Committee on proposals for the $850 million bond package that will go before voters in 2017.

In this video, Matt Mooney describes the rainwater harvesting system he designed and built using a recycled satellite dish to provide water to wildlife in San Antonio's Hardberger Park. The project was his final assignment to become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank given within the Boy Scouts of America. Mooney continues with the best practices behind maintaining a rainwater harvesting system.
