AVANCE to Serve More Texas Families through Early Head Start AVANCE has been awarded nearly $4 million in Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership grants, which will fund collaboration between AVANCE and local child care programs to expand high quality early learning opportunities for San Antonio, Houston and the Rio Grande Valley’s most vulnerable infants and toddlers.

The San Antonio & Bexar County Head Start Program is currently accepting applications for three and four year old children for the 2013-2014 school year. “Head Start provides a crucial step up for eligible children so they are prepared for academic success when they enter kindergarten,” Human Services Department Interim Director Melody Woosley said. “It combines school readiness with strong family supports to help children succeed both in and out of the classroom.”

San Antonio residents gave impassioned pleas to city officials about the city's proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.About 60 people gathered Monday, August 22, at the Alicia Treviño Lopez Senior One Stop Center for the District 6 public meeting about the proposed budget. Officials representing city departments were there to listen to reactions to the proposal.
