The Soul Funk Explosion is being held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and will feature talent like Betty Wright, The O’Jays, and Rickey Smiley as well as many others. The Explosion will take place on Labor Day weekend on both Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The LaborFest Park Explosion is a family friendly event featuring various music genres and performers. The event will take place it the Institute of Texan Culture on Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 11p.m. The celebration will have food and carnival activities for the whole family to enjoy. Tickets cost $30 for one day and $45 for both. VIP tickets are available as well.

The Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner has been mixed in San Antonio’s tradition since 1979 when the late Raul Jimenez fed 100 of San Antonio’s elderly and less fortunate. This year, 4,000 volunteers are expected to serve more than 25,000 who gather for the fellowship and the food, said event organizer Patricia Jimenez.

Sixty-four teams of high school students from across Texas, the United States and Mexico are building robots as big as 120 pounds in the Alamo Regional First Competition being held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The FIRST Robotics and Tech Competitions on Thursday, March 3 showcases some of the brightest young technical brains who will compete for scholarships, a spot in the FIRST Championship, and, as organizers say, "bragging rights" by building robots from kits and parts.
