In late 2017, Dr Robyn Madson, Dean of the UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine was asked to consider a way to participate in the year-long 300th Anniversary celebration of the City of San Antonio. Dr Madson considered what a privilege it is for the osteopathic school to be situated on this historic campus and couldn’t think of a better way to honor the people who once worked on this campus and the amazing contributions they made to our Country, the State of Texas and the City of San Antonio and celebrate this historic year than by hosting a Reunion.

February is African-American Heritage Month, a time to reflect on and celebrate African-American culture and heritage. The National Endowment for the Humanities’ Created Equal project uses the power of documentary films to encourage public conversations about the changing meanings of freedom and equality in America. Locally, the San Antonio Public Library, SAPL, aims to accomplish this through hosting a variety of events, film screenings and discussions throughout the month at various branch locations.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, the San Antonio Public Library and the San Antonio Public Library Foundation with the Latino Leadership For the Library Committee hosted a panel discussion, Palabras Con Poder or Words With Power, to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. The panel of Hispanic authors and activitists talked about the influence of the Chicano movement and La Raza Unida party in their works and lives. Replay video of the event below.

REPLAY THE VIDEO: Ten San Antonio-area visionaries gave lively presentations about how they're changing the way we eat and think about food in South Texas. The July 24 event at Aldaco's at Sunset Station, was emceed by Blanca Aldaco, chef and owner of Aldaco's. The event was co-hosted by Plaza de Armas and SavorSA with NOWCastSA.
