Both Gov. Rick Perry and his Democratic gubernatorial challenger, Bill White, will appeal for the Latino vote during the annual conference of The National Council of La Raza in San Antonio July 9-13, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center downtown.

Ernesto Olivo was among more than 60 people from San Antonio who went to Phoenix in a caravan to participate in the National Day of Action march, protesting Arizona's new law that calls for police to use "reasonable suspicion" to question and detain possible undocumented immigrants.Thousands of people joined the march in Phoenix, while others held smaller, symbolic rallies in other cities, including San Antonio. Novelist, professor and St. Mary's University graduate, Manuel Luis Martínez, will read from his third novel, "Day of the Dead", from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, in the Chaminade Tower Garden Room, St. Mary's University. The reading will be followed by conversation and refreshments.

Chants of "Sí se puede!" could be heard through the streets of downtown San Antonio for the 14th annual César Chávez March for Justice.San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, along with Jaime Martinez, Chairman of the César Chávez Foundation, led the marchers from Plaza Avenida Guadalupe on the West Side to the Alamo on March 27.
