As San Antonians gear up for the coming Fourth of July holiday, they should keep in mind pets can become very frightened by all the noise and commotion we take for granted during festivities. Planning ahead and using some precautions can help make this Independence Day a festive one for every member of your family.  Animal Care Services offers these tips to protect your pet this holiday:

To be an American is not a talent. It's not a craft or skill discovered and manifested early in life that is honed and mastered so that we perform with pride as others marvel at this singular talent. We didn't will ourselves into existence or align the stars and our bloodlines in our favor so that we would be born in the United States. When we say that we're proud to be an American it should be with the acknowledgement that everyone should be proud of his or her birthright.

The historic Market Square is gearing up for its annual Freedom Fest that takes place July 2 - 4, 2016 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Freedom Fest is a FREE fun-filled weekend event full of delicious food, artisan crafts, a mechanical bull riding attraction for kids, live music and dancing for everyone, and much more. Every night will have various live music performances like the Texas Tone Rangers, Jorge Alejandro, and The Palacios Brothers. Information from news release.

On Monday, July 4, 2016, bring the entire family to Woodlawn Lake Park and join the San Antonio Parks Foundation for the biggest and best party in town celebrating our nation’s birth and our freedom. Families are invited to participate in a fun-filled day of games, food and musical entertainment.

When a San Antonio night is lit up by fireworks, the newest place to be is Hays Street Bridge. On July 4, 2013, this vantage point attracted an estimated 200 guests who started the evening with ice chests and lawn chairs.

The San Antonio Public Library will host Red, White and Bloom, an Independence Day celebration featuring musical  performances by the 323nd Army Band and The Texas Flood Band. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, lunch and non-alcoholic beverages.
