"The partners of the “1st Latino Path to Power and Prosperity” working symposium invite prospective participants to this May 4-5, 2017 policy focused event. The symposium goal is to establish equitable public policies that contribute to economic mobility opportunities which strengthen Latino families. Strong families exemplified by financially stable home environments, increased education, secure employment, greater child development support opportunities, improved health, and more engaged voters.

Chavez interfaith ecumenical service will begin at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1321 El Paso St.The service will be a multi-faith celebration through prayer and song in partnership with local spiritual leaders. All faiths welcome to attend.The event is free and open to the public.

A Cesar E. Chavez student art contest and awards presentation will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Cesar E. Chavez Learning Center, 1504 E. Commerce St. at Hackberry.Renowned Chicano artist Jesse Trevino, Columbia Heights art teacher Brandon Olmos, Chicano artist Abel Ortiz and Noe Garza will judge artwork submitted by elementary students.The event is free and open to the public.

A labor tribute to the legacy of Cesar E. Chavez will begin at noon at the Samuel Gompers Memorial Statue, across from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, near the River Walk.Labor leaders and community activists will gather for a wreath laying ceremony to honor Samuel Gompers and Cesar E. Chavez.The Samuel Gompers Memorial, the first labor monument in San Antonio, was erected in 1980 during a special ceremony in which Cesar E. Chavez, Lane Kirkland, Mayor Henry Cisneros, Jaime Martinez and others were present.
