In support of arts and artists in San Antonio, ¡VIVA! A Live Telethon will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight, in partnership with Luminaria, Nelco Media, and Texas Public Radio. The 6-hour telethon will be hosted by local musician Garrett T. Capps and livestreamed on the Texas Public Radio Facebook page from the Malú & Carlos Alvarez Theater & Studio, inside the Irma & Emilio Nicolas Media Center, at Texas Public Radio’s new downtown headquarters. The program will also be streamed on multiple Facebook channels, YouTube, TPR.org, and LuminariaSA.org.

The citizen committees studying San Antonio's planned 2017 bond are more than halfway through their work. Members of the parks and recreation committee, though, are offering varying opinions that reflect a growing number of residents who hope to get more attention for smaller, less visible projects citywide.

Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA) performed at Luminaria 2012. This video was taken at the main stage in front of the Institute of Texan Cultures, at Hemisphere Park. The orchestra performing is Youth Orchestra 210.

More than 80 artists learned this week that they would be the public face of the fifth year of Luminaria. See a full list of the artists selected.Organizers said they believe they will eclipse last year's attendance of 310,000 people for the Saturday, Mar. 10, festival at HemisFair Park. Performance times and locations have yet to be determined.

Luminaria 2012 promises to be bigger and better than ever. Organizers announced Nov. 14 during a press conference at the Majik Theatre that the fifth annual art festival will build upon the momentum of last year’s event that welcomed more than 310,000 attendees.Luminaria 2012 will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012, from 6 p.m. to midnight. The event that showcases art and artists will be held at Hemisfair Park, using last year’s enlarged footprint.
