The Parks Community Bond Committee on Monday, Dec. 5, finalized its recommendations toward the city’s planned 2017 bond. Committee members spent nearly four hours making proposals and counter-proposals. Negotiations during brief breaks took place. A few tense moments, also, were present.

Members of the parks and recreation committee, though, are offering varying opinions that reflect a growing number of residents who hope to get more attention for smaller, less visible projects citywide.

Residents packed the auditorium at San Antonio Central Library Nov. 2 to speak in support of millions of dollars in bond-funded projects to improve the city's largest parks, including Brackenridge, Hardberger, McAllister and the Hemisfair Civic Park. The meeting was the last chance for citizens to be heard by the Parks and Recreation Bond Committee on proposals for the $850 million bond package that will go before voters in 2017.

San Antonio Friends of the Parks kicked off the spring season with the fourth annual “Fest of Tails” event, where people brought their kites and dogs along for a fun-filled day in the sun. The free event took place on March 27 in the dog park area of the 976-acre McAllister Park. The Alamo Kite Fliers Outfit (TAKO) provided a “kite hospital” to assist fliers with kite problems.
