As I prepared to participate in the nation's largest memorial march in celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I was immediately impressed by the seemingly endless sea of people waiting to march. It made me think of all the stories I had heard about the civil rights marches my own elder family members had been a part of.

Cloudy skies and mist didn't keep marchers from celebrating the life of Martin Luther King Jr.Thousands gathered Jan. 18 at the Martin Luther King Freedom Bridge to march in honor of the civil rights leader. The event is touted as one the largest MLK marches in the country.Families, city officials, community and school organizations were among the participants. Many carried posters or banners displaying messages by King.
