Former Major League Baseball players Donald Harris, Jim Gideon and Brian Clark, among others, will step up to home plate to instruct teens and young adults with intellectual special needs, ages 14 and older, during Eva’s Heroes 3rd annual Baseball Clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 16 at St. Mary’s University Dickson Stadium, One Camino Santa Maria, 78228. Admission is $10 per player. Lunch will be provided. Donald Harris and Jim Gideon played for the Texas Rangers, while Brian Clark played for the Cleveland Indians.

Nearly 50 residents gathered to remove and replace the Government Hill Alliance Board of Directors in a meeting at St. Patrick's Catholic Church that was carefully scripted and orderly. Organizers said they were motivated by concern over development in the historic neighborhood and a lack of transparency by the previous board. San Antonio Youth Ballet invites the community to enjoy it's production of the holiday classic The Nutcracker.  A cast of 50 dancers from as far as Georgetown, Canyon Lake, and Bulverde will perform for two audiences on December 14th and 15th, with special cameo from District 2 Councilman William "Cruz" Shaw and wife, former ballerina, Michelle Shaw.  Go on a journey to magical kingdoms - meeting snowflakes and sugar plum fairies on a fantastic journey with Clara and her Toy Soldier.  The Nutcracker will be a perfect evening for the entire family.

The Fiesta San Antonio Commission will be hosting a media day as an opportunity meeting. Members of the media can meet with Participating Member Organizations, which are nonprofit organizations that help with events of Fiesta every year. Parking for this event is free.

Esperanza Center for Peace and Justice is marking its 30th anniversary throughout 2017. But for individuals who have long been associated with the nonprofit, such as director Graciela Sanchez, Esperanza is not standing idly by, celebrating with a few special events. Sanchez. other staff members, volunteers and supporters of the Esperanza have plenty to do, addressing a variety of local and global issues, like they always have.

Replay the video of a meeting between San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor and members of the Nonprofit Council on Nov. 29 to discuss nonprofit community needs and how her office can work more effectively with nonprofits. “We could work more closely,” Taylor told the nonprofit leaders gathered at the Whitley Theological Center. In addition, she said, “The city could do a better job distinguishing between outputs and outcomes,” she said. “The work you all are about is outcomes.”
