The River Road Neighborhood Association firmly opposes a controversial  and secretive proposal to use city bond funds to demolish San Antonio’s historic Sunken  Garden Theater and convert it into an event space that will overwhelm the infrastructure of the  entire area.  “This is the people’s park. It is not for sale,” says River Road Neighborhood Association Chair  Lucy Wilson. “The Brackenridge Park Conservancy has put forward a proposal to use public  funds in a private development scheme.”

The Governor and legislative leaders who take a ‘no’ position on implementing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in Texas lack compassion, ignore objective facts, and perpetuate injustice. Compassion: Texas already has one of the most stringent Medicaid programs in the country, yet in 2010, the 82nd Legislative Session leaders further cut and underfunded Medicaid. These shortsighted decisions heighten our national decade-old standing as the state with the most uninsured and underinsured population in the country.

Whenever I hear conservatives, such as Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, describe the Social Security trust fund, invariably they maintain that the federal government has spent all of its money and has left it with only worthless IOU's in the form of Treasury bonds.  Thus, as the Baby Boomer generation retires, benefit payments will vastly exceed the revenues from Social Security taxes, resulting in the total collapse of the system.
