Updated: Hours after it was scheduled, San Antonio officials scrapped a vote by the Historic and Design Review Commission on whether to cut down 100 trees, some very old, in Brackenridge Park. The move came after District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez requested a minimum of three public hearings on the project, which is in his district. "We remain committed to the public process and ensure every voice is heard and valued," McKee-Rodriguez said in an earlier statement.

The Parks Community Bond Committee on Monday, Dec. 5, finalized its recommendations toward the city’s planned 2017 bond. Committee members spent nearly four hours making proposals and counter-proposals. Negotiations during brief breaks took place. A few tense moments, also, were present.

San Antonio youth who dream of becoming professional musicians or singers are invited to share their musical talents just in time for the New Year. The Parks and Recreation Department is asking musicians and singers, ages 13 to 18, to submit an audition DVD or CD for the opportunity to be part of the department’s youth band Take Note.
