Join us for a live virtual poetry reading hosted by San Antonio’s official Poet Laureat, Andrea "Vocab" Sanderson. Community poets, activists, and students have used pieces from the Museum’s collection as inspiration for their poems. This event is in partnership with DreamWeek.

Amanda Gorman delivered her poem "The Hill We Climb" at the Jan. 20, 2021 inauguration of President Joe Biden. Gorman, 22, a Los Angeles native, wore a ring with a caged bird, a gift from Oprah Winfrey for the occasion to symbolize the beloved poet Maya Angelou, who also was an inaugural poet. The San Antonio peaceCENTER hosted a conversation about Prejudice in Our World Today, featuring Peace Laureates Rosie Castro, Rabbi Samuel and Lynn Stahl, Sr. Teresa Maya and Imam Omar Shakir. The conversation on Feb. 26, 2015 was held at the Whitley Center at Oblate School of Theology and was free and open to the public. The Peace Laureates were asked to give their wisdom in conversation about ways to talk about prejudice while being honest and compassionate.
