Papa Bear, founder of San Antonio AIDS Foundation, was SA’s first major HIV/AIDS Advocate. When gay men, who were patrons of Robert “Papa Bear” Edwards’ bar, became sick and dying of AIDS in the early ‘80s when not much was known about the disease, he knew he had to do something to offer them comfort and care and soon founded the San Antonio AIDS Foundation.

The program will feature a variety of memorial and awareness messages, as well as musical performances and interactive elements. The theme of this year's event is Getting to Zero: Saving Our Future, encouraging HIV awareness and education among youth.

School will soon be back in session for youth across the city. Unfortunately, there are some topics they won’t be learning about in the classroom. Topics such as bullying, mental health, sex and STD prevention aren’t always discussed openly in schools. That’s why the San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF, “sāf”) created Teen Talk, a website dedicated to providing youth throughout the state with relevant and accurate information about a variety of topics related to their lives.

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation invites the community to its annual WEBB Party fundraiser! In honor of WEBB Party’s last year as an official Fiesta® event, before becoming a Halloween-themed event in fall 2016, this year’s theme is “¡Última Fiesta!” Corresponding with this theme, the dress code for the popular fundraiser for the San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF, sāf) is “Fiesta Flourish.” Partygoers should plan to rock their favorite Fiesta® fashions with the signature WEBB Party twist.

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF) is most widely known for their services of HIV prevention and skilled nursing/hospice but there is more to SAAF services.  Many are not aware that SAAF (pronounced, safe) offers a Hot Meals Program that offers free meals - breakfast lunch and dinner - 365 days a year to those infected with HIV.  Recently SAAFs Hot Meals Program launched an extension called Nourishing SAAF-Chef of the Month Project where each month an area chef offers their time and talents to prepare a special culinary delight to HIV/AIDS

AIDS Awareness Week (AAW) is an extension of World AIDS Day (Dec. 1), a full week to present events or awareness programs. AIDS Awareness Week will occur on the full week in which World AIDS Day falls, which this year is Nov. 27 through Dec. 3.AIDS Awareness Week allows groups and individuals an opportunity to present programs or activities throughout the week, therefore offering more opportunities for the public to participate, attend or simply learn about HIV/AIDS issues.Events in the Area
