Join us for a special Sunday tardeada performance of our multimedia preview of "Still Here: Homenaje al Westside de San Antonio," a book/CD in progress featuring all new original music by Lourdes Pérez, based on oral histories of 12 Westside elders and performed by 20 Westside musicians. We will have a special dance performance by Leticia Sánchez-Retamozo and Álvaro Duarte, as well as live readings by some of the Westside elders whose historias of the 30's, 40's and 50's were given to Pérez to create the songs.

Nearly 200 neighborhood residents attended the 3rd annual Neighborhood Day hosted by the Bowen Center for Neighborhood Advocacy on June 9 at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church. The event encourages residents to come together to get information and discuss ideas to make better neighborhoods.

San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller said the separation of immigrant families at the border "is immoral, is evil, is sinful." His remarks came at the COPS/Metro Alliance Assembly on June 18, 2018, at Our Lady of the Lake University. "To use children as pawns to deter people from coming is inhuman and shows the decadence that we are in, in our country," he said.

San Antonio Public Library will temporarily close Thousand Oaks Branch Library at 4618 Thousand Oaks Dr.  from Monday, June 25 through Thursday, July 5 for improvements funded in the 2018 City Budget. During the closure the book drop will remain open, and holds will be available for pickup Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

By Glenda Wolin Not guilty! That was one of the themes of the rousing keynote speech by Erika Prosper at the San Antonio League’s 2018 Annual Luncheon, held April 19, 2018. Not “not guilty” in the sense of a verdict, but in the sense that as women, we cannot let ourselves feel guilt over not being able to do everything we feel is expected of us, said Prosper, who is married to San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg.
