City Council approved an ordinance today to implement Safe Exchange Zones at six police substations across San Antonio. District 10 City Councilman Mike Gallagher, along with the San Antonio Police Department, spearheaded this campaign in order to reduce the likelihood of criminal activity occurring as a result of an online marketplace exchange.

Individuals with outstanding Class C fines related to misdemeanor violations such as traffic violations and City ordinance violations will have until March 7, 2015 to submit payment under a pre-roundup grace period without fear of arrest. “It is not too late for individuals to take care of their outstanding warrants. We offer this grace period as an opportunity for individuals to pay their fines before the enforcement phase begins,” said Fred Garcia, Municipal Court Clerk. “We are urging those individuals to come to Municipal Court to clear their unpaid fines before March 7.”

On June 8, 2013 the 24th Annual Neighborhood Conference addressed neighborhood associations and residents from all over San Antonio on the issue of safety at Laurel Heights United Methodist Church. Precinct 4 County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson launched the lunchtime session, delivering a talk on the importance of neighborhood associations. Jeanne Russell of SA2020 led a panel discussion on crime and safety with Deputy Chief Joe Hamilton of Bexar County Sherriff's Department and Assistant Chief Jose Banales of the San Antonio Police department. More than 12,000 underserved children and youth, ages 3 to 12, will wake up Christmas morning to find a gift under their tree thanks in part to a $10,000 donation by TETCO and the Turner family given to SAPD Chief William McManus and coordinators of the Blue Santa Program during a presentation Nov. 30 at TETCO store No. 81, 1202 NE Loop 410.

According to a press release, Councilmember David Medina is hosting the 2nd Annual Harvestfest on Friday, Oct. 28 from 5-9 p.m. at Palm Heights Community Center, 1201 W. Malone. There will be free games, food, drinks, rides and lots of candy for all to enjoy. There will be a costume contest for children, and a scarecrow decorating contest for seniors.
