NOWCastSA will webcast five #SASpeakUp Community Open House events intended for residents to share what they would like incorporated in the FY 2017 Budget. Thanks to the underwriting support of the City of San Antonio, anyone can watch the meetings live or replay the videos later right here on this page. All meetings are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The City of San Antonio is asking residents to provide feedback on the Fiscal Year 2017 Proposed Budget through the #SASpeakUp campaign. More than 5,000 residents helped shaped the budget by offering their feedback earlier this year. "Our proposed City budget directly impacts the lives of so many families, and now that we have shared details of it, we want to hear from those families,” said Mayor Ivy R. Taylor. “I urge San Antonians to make their voices heard. After all, we are your City government and this is your money we are investing in our community."

San Antonio residents’ resounding number one priority in the city budget is public safety, calling for improving sidewalks, streets and drainage to protect children and adults. Making the city safer by increasing funding for infrastructure was a top priority for 526 people, or 32.4 percent of those who voted for priorities during the Speak Up SA campaign calling for input on the budget. The comments pleaded for safer, sidewalks, even near schools, protected bike lanes and funding to fix drainage problems that make areas unsafe for children and for motorists,

To make getting involved in planning the City of San Antonio FY 2016 budget even easier, the City has launched a new website and hashtag. SpeakUp San Antonio encourages residents to share which city services they love and show what services or programs they would add and cut in the 2016 budget. It includes an interactive budget planning tool that lets you make changes and keep the budget balanced.
