Rocky Hernandez and the OBG Band rocked the Plaza Del Rey Ballroom & Bingo Hall during the District 1 "Senior Sweetheart Dance" on Tuesday. At least 130 seniors from the Kenwood Community Center, Sacred Heart Church and other District 1 Senior Services nutrition centers joined Councilman Diego Bernal and his staff for the event. Members of the Edison and Los Angeles Heights neighborhood associations and other groups participated, as well.

Line dance classes will be offered for 13 Sundays beginning on July 17, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.  Participants will learn some intermediate-level dances in preparation for the Texas Line Dance Jamboree October 14-15, 2011 in Montgomery, Texas, but we will also just dance for fun--taking requests and doing some easy dances to get in our Sunday exercise.  Requested donation will be $2 per class, or $20 for all 13 classes.

Updated for 2019: Summer months - June through August - inflict considerably high temperatures and humidity in San Antonio. Seniors living in homes without air conditioning or circulating air face a greater risk of heat-related injuries and fatalities during the summer.

Texas Public Radio is hosting a free community event designed to showcase the multiple opportunities and resources available for senior citizens and their families. More than 70 businesses and organizations are expected to attend Silver Solutions: Resources for Living Long and Aging Strong, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 15, at Tri-Point located at 3233 N. St. Mary's Street.
