Senior artists, or “Goldens,” of the Bihl Haus Arts GO! Arts Program at the Normoyle Community Center have been busy constructing a Diá de Los Muertos Altar to honor the life of their deceased loves ones under the guidance of arts instructor Jane Madrigal.

The Department of Human Services, City of San Antonio, and Haven for Hope are reaching out to help the most vulnerable community members as San Antonio braces for near-record high temperatures this weekend.   The Department of Human Services (DHS) will open four facilities from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 29  and Sunday July 30 as cooling stations. We all know seniors need to stay active to stay healthy. And, dancing is a creative exercise. So, Urban-15 Group put the two together to form their Hot Hot Hot Latin dance class. Lead by Catherine Cisneros, Urban-15’s Artistic Director, the Latin dance class teaches the fundamentals of Latin dance, fitness and performance. “It allows them to develop confidence, articulation, posture, and public presentation,” said George Cisneros, who serves as Music and Media Director.

When Ramona Garcia sang the National Anthem at the first of San Antonio Independent School District's high school graduation ceremonies Saturday morning, her grandfather was watching and listening on his computer 250 miles away. "Thanks for webcasting the Graduation of Highlands High School this morning," wrote Ramona's grandfather, Otto Perryman, in an email. "I am disabled and was unable to travel to San Antonio to see the graduation, and appreciate you allowing me to watch it from my home in Fort Worth."

Updated for 2018: Summer months - June through August - inflict considerably high temperatures and humidity in San Antonio. Seniors living in homes without air conditioning or circulating air face a greater risk of heat-related injuries and fatalities during the summer.

In a CNN interview on April 13, Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, criticized President Barack Obama's deficit reduction recommendations and praised those of Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin.Hensarling's claim that a system of private insurers for Medicare would be more efficient than the current single-payer system was particularly outrageous because I'm quite sure that he knows he's not telling the truth.
