San Japan, the ever-popular San Antonio celebration of Japanese culture and anime, manga and gaming, is gearing for its 11th iteration over Labor Day weekend. With each passing year, San Japan is proving it’s more than a fun place where cosplayers, gamers and artists of all ages and backgrounds can demonstrate their skills and share their love of anime and manga.

The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) will be one of the first blood banks to use the VeinViewer Flex, a product of Christie Medical, to help make blood donations more comfortable for young donors. “With some donors, it’s difficult to find small veins for donation,” said Brian Clark, director of Donor Services at STBTC. “This technology we’ve invested in will help our phlebotomists find the right vein to help minimize discomfort during donation.”

South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) honored Gerald Perkins for donating more than 100 units of blood and platelets. A crowd gathered to applaud his service and present him a plaque for his 100th donation. He holds the record as the donor with the most donations at STBTC. The plaque was presented by Olga Martinez, a STBTC employee who has been scheduling his donations for the past 17 years.
