On March 10, 2016, San Antonio City Council approved funding for the new Brooks Spay and Neuter Facility scheduled to break ground early next month. Animal Care Services (ACS) will use this facility to provide low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services for San Antonio residents’ pet dogs and cats.

In a bid to host the biggest community spay/neuter clinic San Antonio has ever seen, Animal Care Services is working with a local animal welfare group to offer hundreds of FREE pet sterilizations. Spay Neuter Inject Protect of S.A. (SNIPSA) and ACS are focusing efforts in the 78227 zip code, a target area based on service call volume and the number of documented bite cases.

The San Antonio Area Foundation's Talk About It! SA Bark in the Park/Perrito Grito will take place on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Woodlawn Park, 1103 Cincinnati Avenue. According to a press release, Animal Care Services will provide low-cost pet adoptions and licenses at the Mayor's Howl-O-Ween Pet Fest on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Lake Park, 1103 Cincinnati. Pet microchipping and vaccinations will also be offered.Veterinarians from the Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) will conduct free and low-cost pet sterilization services, and surgery slots will be granted by lottery at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event.

Residents of 78207, 78228 and 78237 zip codes are invited to schedule an appointment and join Student Nurses Involved in Pet Safety (S.N.I.P.S.) Saturday, Oct. 8 at Good Samaritan Community Services Center, 1600 Saltillo St., for a free spay/neuter clinic. SpaySA will provide free spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats by appointment only.Pets will arrive for registration at 7 a.m. with surgeries beginning at 8 a.m. The event is expected to end around 2 p.m.

SPAYSA will offer FREE spay/neuter for all cats (both pets and ferals) in City Council Districts 1-7 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 25 at Animal Care Services, 4710 Highway 151.To make an appointment, call (210) 351-7729. Cats must have current rabies shots. If not, ACS will provide the vaccination for $10.
