Leaders from nonprofits, human services agencies, community groups and the faith community gathered for a community conversation on how to better connect services and help with people in poverty. The Jan. 28 event at the Maestro Center, hosted by San Antonio Department of Human Services, was the second Community Conversation in a four-part series on Poverty.

A town hall meeting on the future of higher education and Texas' projected budget shortfall drew dozens of residents to St. Philip's College on San Antonio's East Side. Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon, D-San Antonio, hosted the forum that featured Texas' Commissioner of Higher Education Raymund Paredes, who took questions from members of the audience at the filled 160-seat Heritage Room. Paredes warned that if state lawmakers approve wide-ranging cuts in education "we will have no money for new students, zilch, zero, nada."
