On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m, Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will host its annual kickoff press conference and resource fair to formally launch the city’s free tax preparation service. VITA Volunteer Tax Preparers will be on site to help citizens making up to $60,000 annually file their income taxes free of charge. Showing their support, Chair of the United Way Strengthening Families Issue Council Bill Gold, Councilwoman District 3 Rebecca Viagran, and State Representative Mike Villarreal will attend the kickoff.

American Indians in Texas (AIT) was founded 20 years ago in San Antonio to preserve and protect the culture and traditions of indigenous people. In the span of two decades, AIT has sponsored or participated in several dozen Pow Wows in Texas. United San Antonio Pow Wow is a non-profit charted organization whose purpose is to promote the traditions and culture of the American Indian and enlighten the non-Indian about the history and culture of the Native Americans.

Author, song writer, and United Kingdom's Children’s Laureate (2011-2013) Julia Donaldson stopped by San Antonio Central Library on April 20, 2013 to read and sing her works. She covered a range of her books including her first song turned book, A Squish and a Squeeze, The Gruffalo, Tula The Fish Who Cried Wolf and Zog.
