All moms enjoy homemade art! Visit Forest Hills Branch Library, 5245 Ingram Rd., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 to learn about contemporary art and create your own work of art. Bring mom if she enjoys art herself. Create your own contemporary artwork. Artpace artists provide art lessons to students who will look, learn, create and reflect on contemporary art. The San Antonio River Authority, SARA, is hosting a recycling event, April 17, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at four Goodwill Industries of San Antonio locations. The event takes place during National Environmental Education Week, preceding Earth Day.

Twenty-four  individuals with special needs – each with an accompanying “buddy” – will model the latest fashions at the annual “Hand in Hand: A Night on the Runway” benefit from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Morgan’s Wonderland Event Center, 5223 David Edwards Drive. Models will include students from Monarch Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland, a school for those with special needs ages 12 through high school that focuses on preparation for life and work.  They will be partnered with “buddy” students from TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas.

The Parks and Recreation Department will host a one-if-its-kind “Swim with the Elves” Holiday Event at the San Antonio Natatorium, 1430 W. Cesar Chavez, on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 from noon to 2 p.m. “Swim with the Elves,” for children 12 and under and their families, also includes the opportunity to swim in the Natatorium’s heated pool. Children who are 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and swimmers must wear proper swim attire.
