ACCESSABILITY FEST 2012 BRINGS FREE RESOURCES AND ENTERTAINMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO HEMISFAIR PARK
Over 100 non-profit organizations come together in one place, on one day to provide expert advice, resources, entertainment, trick-or-treating, a costume contest and more. On Oct. 28, 2012 disABILITYsa.org and Texas Public Radio, invite the public to AccessAbility Fest 2012 to celebrate disability awareness month.
Celebrate on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 with hundreds of partner organizations, businesses, friends and families at AccessAbility Fest 2012. Local legislative representatives will be available at noon to discuss issues that are important to people with disabilities. AccessAbility Fest is FREE and OPEN to the public. This event is not just for people with disabilities, but also for the entire community at large. Come on out and explore, play and learn with us and enjoy an abundance of games, activities and fun things to do for the entire family. Texas Public Radio, the fiscal agent for AccessAbility Fest, secures sponsorships and underwriting to cover the cost of this event so that everyone can participate without the barrier of an admission fee.
WHEN: Oct. 28, 2012 from noon to 5 p.m.
WHERE: HemisFair Park, Downtown San Antonio 600 HemisFair Plaza Way, 78205
Parking is available at the Alamodome. Continuous Shuttle Service between the Alamodome and HemisFair Park will be available between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
WHO: Individuals with all types of disabilities; families and loved ones who know someone with a disability; nurses, health care professionals, social workers; educators, special ed teachers; support group facilitators; service providers, caregivers and the general public. Bring the family out for a day of fun!
WHAT: This event features: appearances by local legislature and candidates; industry experts for one-one advice; safe trick-or-treating and a costume contest; information resource booths; and the AccessAbility in Action Award presentation. Also, enjoy live entertainment, games, activities, train rides, face painting, mascots and health screenings.
WHY: There is a problem finding resources, recreation and advice for families and people with disabilities in Texas. AccessAbility Fest brings much-needed resources together to make it easy for people to find the programs and services they need to live a healthy and productive life. AccessAbility Fest Objectives:
- Increase awareness among people with disabilities about the resources, special opportunities, activities or discounts available to them in their own community.
- Create information-sharing and partnership opportunities for nonprofits and businesses to learn about each other in order to better sere people with disabilities and their families in our community
- Increase awareness in the community about people with disabilities and their abilities to achieve success.
