Amanda Flores, the youngest poet to represent San Antonio at the National Poetry Slam competition, is returning to her hometown to take part in a literary series of presentations at Celebration Circle.
Celebration Circle is an inter-faith, non-profit organization with a creative, affirmative and inclusive approach to spirituality. Flores earned her degree in English and Creative Writing at Trinity University before moving to New York City last year.
Flores excels as a spoken word poet. Once can get a glimpse of her performance by viewing videos or her poetry, such as I Will Not Write Poetry When the Teacher is Talking.
Zet Baer, cultural activist and co-founder of the Celebration Circle, said the purpose of this poetic series is to focus on the vital role that poetry plays in building multi-cultural understanding, as well as to honor and nurture the Sacred in ourselves and each other.
“This series promises to be one of the standouts among the many National Poetry Month events being held in San Antonio in April,” Baer said. “The combination of each of these dynamic presenters reading their works interwoven with lively music will provide layers of experiential delight for attendees.”
