Naomi Shihab Nye, recipient of San Antonio’s inaugural Distinction in the Arts award in 2015, will share her words and winning personality at one of a series of poetry events at Celebration Circle.
Celebration Circle is an inter-faith, non-profit organization with a creative, affirmative and inclusive approach to spirituality. Naomi Shihab Nye is an internationally known poet and editor who resides in San Antonio. Her father, a Palestinian refugee, and her mother, an American of German and Swiss descent, contributed to her experience of different cultures.
Zet Baer, cultural activist and co-founder of the Celebration Circle, said the purpose of this poetic series is to focus on the vital role that poetry plays in building multi-cultural understanding, as well as to honor and nurture the Sacred in ourselves and each other.
“This series promises to be one of the standouts among the many National Poetry Month events being held in San Antonio in April,” Baer said. “The combination of each of these dynamic presenters reading their works interwoven with lively music will provide layers of experiential delight for attendees.”
Other poets in this series include Lesléa Newman on April 23 and Amanda Flores on April 30. For more information, visit the website for Celebration Circle.
