On Wednesday, November 6, 2013 Memorial Branch Library will host a Project QUEST applicant information session for adults age 18 and up who are interested in going to college and gaining employment, but don’t have the resources. During the session, interested participants will learn how to apply for career guidance, college tuition, books and more.
Project QUEST is a community-based workforce development program that offers comprehensive training opportunities to economically disadvantaged adults interested in pursuing careers in targeted industry sectors including healthcare, business services/ information technology and manufacturing, installation, repair and maintenance. The primary goals of Project QUEST are to develop a skilled and educated workforce, place participants in jobs paying family-level wages and to ultimately strengthen the local economy. To accomplish these goals, Project QUEST enrolls qualified San Antonio residents into high-demand occupational training programs, provides participants with intense case management and support services, and offers job search and placement assistance upon completion of training.
The mission of Project QUEST is to demonstrate the social and economic benefits achieved through investments in comprehensive skills training. Specifically, Project QUEST defines the skills required to succeed in targeted, hard-to-fill occupations, then recruits, trains and develops adults so that they are qualified and ready for employment.
The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) has a variety of additional resources to aid in job training and job searches. The Jobs and Small Business Center on the 5th floor of the Central Library is dedicated to helping patrons as they search for a job or perform business research. SAPL also provides access to tutors online through Live Homework Help at tutor.com. Work with a test prep tutor to study for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP Tests, GED, or even the US Citizenship Test. Or, search for a job, write an effective resume, or prepare for an interview with a career tutor. Hours are 2 p.m. to midnight daily and Spanish-speaking tutors are available. Patrons can also access practice lessons, worksheets, study guides and videos 24/7. Find more information on these and other SAPL services at www.MySAPL.org.
