The San Antonio River Authority (SARA) is proud to announce the Inaugural Float Fest in anticipation of becoming a future signature event for the annual Fiesta celebration held every April in San Antonio, Texas. This FREE event is designed to bring awareness about SARA's newly developed improvements on the Mission Reach of the San Antonio River including enhanced parks and other outdoor recreation amenities the Mission Reach has to offer.
As part of SARA's Float Fest celebration, the local community is invited to enter a FREE decorating competition. Participants are encouraged to decorate their kayaks, canoes or paddle boards, wear a costume, or wear a fun and festive hat and paddle a one (1) mile portion of the Mission Reach paddling trail where guest judges will look at all the entries. An award ceremony will be held following the judging at noon at the Acequia Park Pavilion. For official rules and to register, participants must download the online registration form. Deadline to enter the decorating competition is Friday, March 27, 2015. Space to participate is limited (100 watercrafts max).
Kayaks, Canoes and Paddle Boards are available for rent for a fee through permitted paddling vendors.
In addition to viewing the watercraft decorating competition, the public will be invited to enjoy other festivities from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. that include music, outdoor and educational activities, mobile food truck vendors, and more. Available parking for the public will be off Mission Parkway Rd. down from Mission San Juan Capistrano and Mission Parkway Rd. down from Espada Park.
