The Woodlawn Theatre will kick off its second year of participating in the The Big Give S.A. 2015 by celebrating its roots and screening a movie. Now the home of live Broadway-style productions, the Woodlawn first opened its doors as a movie theatre and was the venue for the premiere of John Wayne's classic movie "The Alamo."
The Woodlawn Theatre has set a fundraising goal of $20,000 for May 5. The money will be used to support theatre operations and help continue to produce quality musical productions as well as support the fast-growing Woodlawn Academy for the Performing Arts, which serves children ages 5-17.
From midnight to 2 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, the Woodlawn will screen a film chosen by fans who have voted on the theatre's Facebook page. The movie will be free, but guests are encouraged to make a $10 (or more) online donation to Woodlawn via The Big Give for admission.
Donation station: The Woodlawn Theatre will also have "donuts for donors" event at the theatre from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. People can drive by the theatre to pick up coffee and donuts before going to work. An evening of live entertainment begins from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with an Open Mic time and then from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Broadway Nights Extravaganza. A line-up of popular San Antonio entertainers has been slated for the Broadway Nights Extravaganza. Participants and guests of both events are invited to make online donations to support the theatre.
