Where is a book transformed into artwork and a library transformed into a museum? In January and February of 2016, the gallery at San Antonio Central Library became a Book Garden ~ a home to oversized southwestern lizards, busts of Renaissance men, Zen rocks and other sculptures, all created by Taiwanese-born artist Long-Bin Chen. On first glance, most people think the carvings are made from marble or stone - but in fact they are sculpted from books and magazines.

New to the 2nd annual San Antonio Book Festival is Literary Death Match where four authors perform their most outstanding writing in less than seven minutes and three all-star judges decide which two writers advance to the finals. Sharp commentary--with audience participation-- determines who is crowned Champion. With special thanks to Las Casas Foundation, the Literary Death Match will be held at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre on Saturday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. The Festival is a program of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation. $10 - Mezzanine Seating
