Finishing the semester strong, one of our interns will be graduating and moving on to become a software engineer for H-E-B.
Jose Garcia, a computer science major from the University of Texas San Antonio, first joined the NOWCastSA team in the summer of 2021 where he worked with data, creating visualizations, maps, and website management.
He says that “My time at NOWCastSA has been nothing short of amazing. I have met so many talented, smart, and caring people who I’ve had the pleasure of working with every week.”
One of the projects he loved working on was the Texas Winter Storm Analysis where he pulled weather data from an API and created various graphs to visualize the impact and extent of Winter Storm Uri.
He has also created a variety of maps and contributed to NOWCastSA’s election coverage by creating and updating voting poll location maps in Bexar County. This semester in particular, he was able to extend coverage by including locations from major Rio Grande Valley counties as well.
An interesting part of his duties was helping transition from the current website to the new, redesigned website. Jose enjoyed meeting and discussing with other peers on how to best transition different aspects of the current website to the new one.
“I will always cherish my time with NOWCastSA,” says Jose. “I have learned an incredible amount of things, not only about my job or things relating to my major, but about working together and interacting with others. I will use these things I have learned as I continue to grow, not only as a software engineer, but as a person.”
Good luck on your future endeavors Jose! We will miss you.
Editor's note: NOWCastSA looks forward to introducing it's new website design in 2023.
