Video: Matthew McConaughey Implores Americans to Unite Against Gun Violence

Given the podium at the White House Press Briefing Room, Uvalde, Texas native Matthew McConaughey seized the opportunity to talk about the deadly shooting that killed 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary.

During an emotional speech before media from across the globe, McConaughey said he spent some time in Uvalde with the victim’s families hearing stories, tears and memories. He shared stories and memories while passionately calling for responsible gun ownership.

“This should be a non-partisan issue,” he said. “There is not a Democratic or Republican value in one single act of these shooters, but people in power have failed to act. So we’re asking you, and… will you please ask yourselves, can both sides rise above? Can both sides see beyond the political problem at hand and admit that we have a life preservation on our hands?

“Let’s come to the common table that represents the American people, find a middle ground. The place where most of us Americans live anyway. Especially on this issue, because I promise you America… we are not as divided as we are being told we are.”
