NOWCastSA is pleased to announce that San Antonio Poet Laureate Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson will be our guest at the inaugural Power of Words Gala, in conversation with NOWCastSA Executive Director Charlotte-Anne Lucas.
Sanderson is an award-winning poet, singer and hip hop artist whose debut book, “She Lives in Music” was published on Valentine’s Day 2020. She began her three-year term as San Antonio’s Poet Laureate on March 31, just 20 days after the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. She presented her highly anticipated "Hope Rising” TEDx talk on Sept. 26.
Sanderson believes in the healing power of poetry. She used hashtags with writing prompts to help people process the events of 2020 through social media posts, then led a video workshop to show people how to amplify their voices with colored pencils on poetry postcards.
She is using her platform “to showcase the power of art as activism,” painting her most recent poem in big yellow letters on the street around Travis Park.
