In a state where Black and Hispanic students consistently fail to perform as well as their white peers, the Intercultural Development Research Association, or IDRA, is dedicated to ensuring that everybody has equal access and opportunity to getting a quality education in public schools.
Their annual La Semana del Niño Parent Institute event is an opportunity for people “to network, obtain resources and information, and receive training and bilingual materials on IDRA's nationally-recognized research based model for parent leadership in education,” the organization says.
Featured speakers this year include the following:
- San Antonio First Lady Erika Prosper Nirenberg, director of customer insights for H-E-B, and 2018 chairwoman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, is giving the opening keynote.
- Ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil, Consul General of Mexico in San Antonio, is opening the Institute.
- María Rocha, first grade teacher at Mark Twain Dual Language Academy in San Antonio, is giving the closing keynote.
IDRA’s new President and CEO, Celina Moreno, will also be accessible throughout the event.
All the presentations will be bilingual and participatory. Other activities during the event include round table educational presentations, breakout sessions, and exhibitions by service providers, colleges, universities and non-profits.
