Sarabia, whose childhood home is just half a mile from the Las Palmas Branch Library, was the first president and co-founder of Communities Organized for Public Service, or COPS. His family said it was Sarabia's dying wish to have his name added to the Las Palmas Branch Library. (Read more)
Sarabia helped the organization become a powerful force for equity and change in San Antonio (today it is most commonly known as the COPS/Metro Alliance). He taught people how to participate effectively in democracy. His actions helped the community successfully advocate for new libraries, flood control projects and the creation of Palo Alto College. During the public input meeting, the committee will make no decisions.
The Naming Committee will consider the public comments from this meeting before making a recommendation to the Library Board of Trustees. The Library Board will take action on the proposed name of the Las Palmas Branch Library at a future meeting, the date for which has not yet been confirmed.
