Makenna Lee Elrod, a bright and caring natural born leader, dies at 10

Allison McCullough will remember Makenna’s smile, which she said could light up a room.

“She had the biggest heart and loved her family and friends so much,” McCullough said of her niece on a GoFundMe page.

Late Thursday, a young boy who said he was 8 years old walked up to Makenna’s cross in the town square. He dropped a single white rose on the pile of flowers, gifts and stuffed animals in front of it.

Makenna loved writing notes to her family and leaving them in hidden places to be found later. 

Makenna was a bright 10-year-old who loved school, softball, gymnastics, and loved to sing and dance. She was a natural-born leader and made friends everywhere she went.

Makenna's favorite color was purple. Those who attended her celebration of life were asked by her family to wear purple in her honor.
